"A Job Over $100,000 can be a Dream Come True...Here's How to Get One"
One of the most common complaints we hear from job seekers and
employees is that they are not paid what they are worth.
I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard that complaint. I could retire
rich. Almost everyone, regardless of income, education, or position, believes
that he or she should be earning more money.
People at minimum wage obviously want to make more, but people at the highest
levels also want more. A classic example is professional athletes, arguably the
most overpaid people in the nation, who are forever whining that they are not
paid enough. But are you really paid what you are worth? Let’s explore that
topic.
On one hand, the belief that we are “entitled” to more compensation speaks well
for us as individuals. We possess strong self-worth and self-esteem and believe
we should be highly compensated for who we are. On the other hand, too often our
expectations are not founded on the realities of the marketplace or on our
ability to “earn” our income based on performance.
If you want to maximize your compensation, there are a number of tactics you can
use to demonstrate your value. Let’s take a look at some of these tactics.
Step 1: Choose the right profession
Some professions are simply paid much better than others. This is such an
obvious statement that it seems silly to even bother typing it, yet most people
willfully ignore this truth.
Step 2: Get an education and qualifications in your chosen profession
The next step is to learn as much as you can about your chosen profession by
studying up on the theory of it. Usually, this involves some kind of formal
study, but it can also sometimes be self-taught. Look for the qualifications and
skills that are being asked for in job ads. Your aim is to become the person
they are asking for in those ads.
Step 3: Polish up your resume
A good resume is one of the best tools you can have in getting a highly-paid
job. While it usually won’t land you a role on its own, it is a foot in the
door. Having a poor resume can mean being denied access to the best jobs as your
opportunities are dropped in the paper-recycle bin before you even get started.
Step 4: Improve your job interviewing technique
The other bridge you have to cross on your way to a well-paid job is usually an
interview. Once again, read books and advice articles on interview techniques.
Get lots of practice by going to actual interviews.
Step 5: Use a $100,000 a year Resource
